Counseling & Advocacy
Our counselor/advocates provide the following services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking:
- Crisis Intervention
- Short-Term Empowerment Counseling and Referrals to Local Mental Health Professionals
- Facilitation of Support Groups
- Safety Planning
- Assistance with the Writing and Filing of Protection From Abuse (PFA) Orders
- Accompaniment and Legal Advocacy to Victims During Criminal and Civil Court Hearings, Including: Preliminary Hearings, Trials, Indirect Criminal Contempt Hearings, and Protection From Abuse Order Hearings
- Assistance by Providing Information and Referrals to Community Agencies to Obtain Needed Resources Including: Housing, Shelter, Legal Representation, Clothing and Food
- Advocacy on Behalf of Victims to Professional Agencies Including: The Assistance Office and Domestic Relations Office
In addition, the field advocate provides the following services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking:
- Outreach to Survivors Who Have Had Contact With Law Enforcement and to Plaintiffs of PFA Orders Issued in Centre County to Identify Additional Follow-up Needs
- Assists Victims with Preparation and Support During the Investigative Process and Prosecution of Defendants
